That's the word from green energy expert John Meeks, owner of AppleBlossom Insulators of Concord, NC.

 

For many their largest investment is also one of the biggest drains on their finances. John Meeks, a contractor with more than 30 years of experience, says Americans can save energy and money through inexpensive audits to improve their home's efficiency. What's more, the cost of many of these home improvements can be covered by federal income tax credits.

 

With the housing market in a historic slump, his company is also certified to retrain blue collar workers as "green collar workers." But John sees a larger mission in training workers for new skills that will be in demand with billions in federal economic stimulus money aimed at energy efficiency. It's all part of his mission to spread the gospel of energy efficiency through a socially responsible company.

 

"We take someone who doesn't have an education, maybe a high school education, and teach them a skill," he says. "It is a business model that is created and intended to benefit humanity and the planet."

 

John founded AppleBlossom Insulators in 2006 after three decades in the commercial flooring business. In addition to retraining workers, AppleBlossom also analyzes homes for energy efficiency and sells Earth-friendly insulation products.
